Welcome to Cards by Amy K.

I am SO GLAD you stopped by to check out my blog!!! Here I will be posting my current projects for you to see. PLEASE feel free to leave me a comment. I would LOVE to hear what you think about what I'm working on. I have been a scrapbooker/paper crafter since I first caught wind of this wonderful hobby in 2006. I am lucky enough to get to spend my days doing something I love so much and which brings so much joy into my life. I first started scrapbooking as a way to pass the time as I found myself at home alone all day suddenly, now I can't imagine life without it. Too bad I don't get paid for it, then I really would have it all!!!

Thank you card for my Bestie, Wendy

I made this Thank You card for my good friend, Wendy.  She's stays very busy looking after a family of four children at times and a hubby to be all the time.  Like any mother, wife she runs the house and oversees everything,  You and I know how tiresome that can be.  I know It exhausts me some days and I don't even have children. lol.  Well Wendy was one of the people who came and stayed with me at the hospital while I was having my surgery.  Her, my Mom, and Brian.  They just took shifts so that I never had to be alone for long. I want to thank Wendy especially because at the time I had my surgery her mom was also recovering from a surgery and Wendy found time to balance us both. She's a great friend and I love her dearly.
So for this card I used design paper from CTMH, the "Roxie" collection.  The card stock in cream and black are from Wal Mart.  I make all my card bases out of their card stock. The die cuts were as follows: the round plaid die cut and the label are from Spellbinders and the leaf flourish was from Cheery Lynn Designs, its called "Fanciful Flourish" and is one of their number one best sellers right now.  If you haven't yet  tried out CLD's dies then you should run over there and grab you up some because these dies are awesome and made here in the USA. I also used pink dew drops from Recollections and the sentiment stamp is from Studio G. I stamped it with ink from Powder Puff chalk inks in "Amaretto".
For the inside I used the flower stamp that was from the Studio G sentiment set. I stamped it with the powder puff chalk inks in "mocha mama".  I colored the flower in with my Copic Markers. I used R20, R22, YG06, and YG03.  The sentiment on the inside is from Hero arts. A set called "Thank you for being my friend". I stamped it also with the powder puff chalk inks in "Maraschino Cherry". The bling is by Recollections.

Well, that's all I've got for today see  you back here tomorrow with a get well card.  Have a great day!

Happy Anniviersary card to my Sweetie

My Hubby and I have been married 11 years this year and I am very late with this post because the anniversary was April 21.  I do have a good reason though.  I had surgery on April 18, then there was my Brother's bday on the 16th and my bday on the 20 and my cousin, Nicole had her birthday on the 14.  I'm very late on making some birthday cards (sorry Robin) and some just may not make it this year.  I tried very hard to get prepared before the surgery and try and have some of these made but I spent most of my time working on my mother's day gifts this year and if you've seen my previous post you will understand what an undertaking that was.  Alas, I digress.  I love my hubby very much and even tho this wasn't a milestone anniversary, I treat them all like they are.  I try to tell him daily and multiple time that I love him and I also regularly tell him just how much I love him and how grateful I am for having him by my side to walk thru this journey of life together with.  He was right there by my side the entire time I was in and out of the O.R. and the whole time he had me home on the mend.  He's the best husband in the world to me.....  I know at times I am not so easy to love, I can be selfish and winy and I like to get my way all most as much as he does. lol.  I can't think of a better match for me that God could have chose other than Brian.  I guess that just goes to show that God does know what he's doing and much more so than we do.  I never would have guessed he and I would make a good pair because we are both type A people and they usually but heads but not Brian and I.  He knows when it's time to give in to me and I give in to him all the rest of the time.  I gotta say the man is spoiled but you know, Honestly, I feel like I am too.  So here's to another year of smiles and tears.  I love you, Babe to the moon and beyond. I look forward to a life time together with you.  You really do make life worth living esp. with me being disabled.  You push me to keep going and not just lie down and give up and I need that...Thank You.  You really do make me a better person.  I love you.

I hope that didn't turn anyone off today, but Brian only reads my blog once a year and I have to make it good when he does. lol.  I hope you all have a wonderful day today and I will see you back tomorrow with a thank you card.

Happy Mother's Day, Mom

I made this trio for my Mother this year on Mother's day.  Sorry, I'm just a tad bit late posting it.  It's alot like the set I made for my MIL in my last post so I wont go into so much detail with this one.  The paper on the card is Webster's Pages, the die cut dollie is from Cheery Lynn Designs and the die cut sentiment is from the cricut (same cart. as last post).  I used some Wild Orchid Crafts flowers mixed with the ones from the bridal dept. at Micheals.  I used a Recollections pearl bling and some mixed trims to finish it off.

For this bag I mainly used die cuts from the Cricut and also some Wild Orchid Crafts flowers.

Here are some shots of the frame I made.  The paper was from ek success, I didn't even know they made paper and marketed it themselves.  Just like the other frame, the spray is from Micheals the bling is from Recollections and  so are the crocheted flowers.  The big white flower is one I made out of some lacey trim. the other flowers are WOC and the saying inside is from an online download.  So that's it, I hope you enjoyed it and I'm so sorry about it taking so long to post.  Have a great day!

Happy Mother's Day gifts for my Mom-in-law 2012

My two Mother's day gifts are very similar in design all tho the colors are different.  I made the two cards very different tho.  This post is about the gifts and card I made for my Mother in law.  I will be uploading a different post about my Mother's gifts.  So for this set that I made the MIL I used pink as the primary color.  for the card base I used Ga. pacific white to make the card then inked around the edges in pink chalk ink.  I then layered a piece of designer paper from GCD'S Home spun Chic collection.  I just loved how "girlie" their papers in this line are.  I, of course, used my cricut mini with the gypsy to design the elements for this card.  I used the Elegant Edges cartridge for the label shape and the shadow feature that goes along with it, and I used Celebrate with Flourish for the title piece.  I added some dew drops from recollections and some seam binding from Martha Stewart and finally a pink flower from Recollections.

I made each of my Mother's one of these frames and they both contained this saying (I just changed the colors accordingly).  First I painted the wooden frame with pink around the edges and around the opening in the center as they would show.  I painted the back with a couple of layers of Gesso to cover up any pink overage I may have been messy with lol. I then used my Ranger, Glue and Seal to glue down the designer paper from K & co. and then to go over the tops to seal it. after that was dry I went back and added some cut away pieces of dollies and used the glue and seal on them too.

For the spray and decoration on the left side, I used a pink beaded and butterfly spray that I got from Micheal's.  The white satin flower comes from the wedding department at Hobby Lobby and I used my glimmer mist to paint the leaves on it green altho it didn't show up too much.  I also used  the cricut here to cut out a background leaves shape and layed it down behind all the other flowers and the spray.  If you click on the picture you can get a better look at what flowers I used.  I used some recollections leaves, and I believe that large pink flower is also from recollections, the pink and purple flower are some from the wedding department at the craft store.  I also used some recollections bling for the bottom left and top right.  There's also a Wild orchid crafts flower in the top left.  and some sweet heart blooms, I believe they are called.
The graphic print is a download from the Internet, sorry but I forgot to write down where I got it from and I get them from so many places that I dare not even guess. lol, sorry.
This bag was just a plain white bag from Micheal's.  I used the Cricut for decorating this bag too.  I was able to use my mini machine along with the gypsy to design my cuts.  I used the "Flower Shoppe" project cartridge for the large flower.  I'm not certain of the size I used to cut out the pieces to the flower but it was somewhere between 4 and 5''.  I then used the "Florals Embellished" cartridge to cut out the Mother's Day saying and I basically just used the gypsy to cut it as long as I could and still have it fit nicely on the bag, I knew the bag was 8" x 10" so I knew how big to make the cut.

Well, here we are, finally to the end of a very long post.  I've got one more to make for My Mother's gift but I think I am going to refer back to this post for most of the information because the projects were so similar in design.  Thanks for sticking with me till the end.  I hope you had a wonderful Mother's day.

Masculine birthday card for Brother

Here's what the front of the card I made for my Brother's birthday looks like.  I used my Bobunny, "Timepiece" collection for the paper line.  I used a bottle cap for embellishment on this card and it was my first time using anything like that.  I have to say I enjoyed it.  I was using a time/clock theme for the card so I went with that in designing the bottle cap, I cut a 1" circle of card stock to match the patterned paper and then I had some watch parts (the actual inter workings of watches) that my good friend, Robin had sent down to me so I used some glossy accents to fill in the bottle cap then sprinkled on some of the watch parts.  They got embedded in the glossy accents and some of them were completely covered and some were still sticking out.  It made for a cool effect, I thought. For the rest of the card; I  used a stamp from Close to my Heart for the tag shape called "Vintage Type".  I also used the coordinating die cut from the Art Philosophy cartridge for the cricut to cut it out.  For the circle die cut behind the Tim Holtz watch face is a Die-namics die called "Dizzy Dolly Duo" (there's two dies in that set, thus the name) and the flourish die cut is also a Die-namics die called "Fancy Flourish". Other than that, I used some braided trim and a metal buckle to go along the center and backed it all on some brown Bazzill Basics card stock.
This is just a look at the inside.  As you can see I used a piece of white card stock (i use the Ga. pacific white from Wal Mart) and backed it with another piece of that brown Bazzill card stock and then just stamped it with a dollar stamp from Micheal's using some archival ink.
That's all for this card, thanks for stopping by to take a look, Hope you all had a wonderful Mothers day and look for  me to have my Mother's day cards up here soon.  I'm running just a little bit behind after the surgery.  Hope all is well with you.

A birthday card for my cousin, Nicole

I made this card for my cousin, Nicole.  She and I are pretty close and I wanted to make her a special card.  I used a paper line from Websters Pages for the background and then I added some teal trim and a pink pokadot ribbon and then, almost as an after thought, I added a double bow made from black seam binding, The sentiment was a stamp from a Close to my Heart set called Celebration. I used black embossing powder to emboss the sentiment.  I used some perfect pearls spray on the whole card.

This a picture of what the inside of the card looks like.  I've been trying to spend a little more time on the insides of the cards  I've been making lately.  I want to make the inside match the outside as best I can.  for this one I just layered the different colored card stock and layered a cream colored piece on top that I used a martha stewart punch along the bottom on.  I inked all t he edges with Walnut stain distress ink,.  I hope its a card that she enjoys.  Thanks for stopping by to take a look and I'll talk to you again next time with a masculine Birthday card for my Brother.  Hugs.
